Surfactol®s are non-ionic surfactants based on the addition of ethylene oxide to the hydroxyl groups in castor oil, drastically affecting the oils tolerance for water, as evidenced by the dispersibility or complete solubility. These non-ionic surfactants are excellent emulsifiers for a wide variety of materials including oils, fats, waxes, oleoresinous binders, insecticides, polyesters and acrylics. They are solubilizers for modifying agents such as dyes, colorants, perfumes, essential oils and extracts. They act as defoamers and anti-static agents and produce emulsions in acid media. These products represent a means of utilizing the properties of castor oil (lubricity, penetration, pigment wetting, dye enhancement) in water-based systems.

Surfactol® 318 is a PEG-5 water dispersible castor oil.

Surfactol® 365 is a PEG-40 water soluble castor oil.

The Surfactol® Q series is a line of ricinoleic quaterniums. These castor oil based cationic surfactants produce both substantive emolliency and surfactant properties while maintaining the attractive benefits of castor oil, such as, mildness, emolliency and unique rheological characteristics. The quaternaries find their application typically in hair care, primarily as conditioners, and skin care as primary emulsifier and emollient. Excellent compatibility with a wide range of anionic surfactants and other formulating ingredients are also key benefits.

Surfactol® Q-1 is ricinoleamidopropyl/trimonium chloride and is a clear liquid with good foaming properties and compatibility with anionics. It should be used where a substantive emollient/emulsifier is needed.

Surfactol® Q-4 is ricinoleamidopropyl/Dimonium Ethosulfate, which is a moderately viscous 100% active liquid cationic surfactant with a broad range of applications in personal car formulating. Surfactol® Q-4 has excellent functionality as a primary emulsifier in creams and lotions. It has good compatibility with anionics, and can be used in shampoos, conditioners and aerosol products.
