The Caspol® polyols are castor oil derived, 100% nonvolatile, reactive diluents which are designed for use as modifier polyols to aid in formulating high performance polyurethane and melamine crosslinked coatings. These castor oil polyols were specifically designed to improve the film properties of urethane and melamine bake coatings and are compatible with a wide range of acrylic, polyester and polyether polyols. These castor oil based polyols are available with functionalities from 2 to 5. Caspol® 1842 A cycloaliphatic ring central to the linear chain backbone improves the strength and hardness of this higher molecular weight diol, while maintaining good elongation and flexibility. Secondary hydroxyl groups and a low viscosity allow for longer pot life. Caspol® 1935 A diol with a linear chain backbone, but contains an aromatic ring for additional strength and resistance. Its' performance is characterized by low hardness and stress, high elongation and high flexibility. Caspol® 1938 A mixture of primary and secondary hydroxyls give this tetra functional polyol controlled reactivity. The high functionality of this polyol yields higher hardness and strength with lower elongation than Caspol® 1935. Caspol® 1962 A blend of primary and secondary hydroxyls coupled with low molecular weight gives this triol a higher level of reactivity, higher hardness and strength, and a lower level of elongation than the other diols and triols of the Caspol® product line. Caspol® 2023 the very high functionality (4.4) and low equivalent weight of this polyol will produce polyurethane's with high hardness, strength and lower elongation than any other polyol in the Caspol® series. Caspol® 5001 The lowest molecular weight diol of the Caspol® series is completely liner in structure. It has a very low viscosity and produces higher strength, elongation and flexibility than DB® Oil, while being slightly softer. Caspol® 5002 Having primary hydroxyl content this triol has a higher level of reactivity than DB® Oil. With lower molecular weight it will also result in higher hardness and strength, and a decrease in elongation and flexibility. Caspol® 5003 Although it is slightly higher in molecular weight than Caspol® 5001, the linear chain backbone of this diol is slightly harder and less flexible. A blend of primary and secondary hydroxyls makes this polyol more reactive. Caspol® 5004 A high level of primary hydroxyls gives this polyol high reactivity. The low molecular weight and functionality of four in this polyol, results in higher hardness and strength and lower elongation and flexibility than the other Caspol® products. Caspol® 5005 This polyol is a blend of diols and high functionality polyols to give high hardness and high strength without brittleness. A low level of primary hydroxyl groups allows for a longer pot life than other high functionality polyols. Caspol® 5005 will produce higher hardness than Caspol® 5004 at a lower viscosity. Caspol® 5006 This polyol contains both primary and secondary hydroxyls for balanced reactivity. Its functionality of 3.5 and structure lead to high hardness and strength, good elongation and good flexibility. Caspol® 5007 A linear chain backbone diol similar to Caspol® 5003 in performance. This polyol lends improved viscosity, compatibility, wetting and dispensability over Caspol® 5003, while maintaining good reactivity. Caspol® 5008 A higher molecular weight, higher cross-linked polyol than DB® Oil. It offers better flexibility, improved durability and improved wetting characteristics. Caspol® 5009 A castor oil based polyol that is noted for long pot life with rapid hardness development, excellent chemical resistance and exterior performance. Designed to meet the stringent demands of the automotive refinish market. Caspol® 7001 A water emulsifiable low molecular weight polyester triol having good hardness with good elongation and flexibility. It was designed to be used in the formulation of 2-component water dispersible urethane coatings (aliphatic isocyanate curable) and for the modification of waterborne melamine coatings. Caspol® 7002 A water emulsifiable low molecular weight polyester diol having good hardness with good elongation and flexibility. It was designed to be used in the formulation of 2-component water dispersible urethane coatings (aliphatic isocyanate curable) and for the modification of waterborne melamine coatings. XXX -1 A specialty dehydrated castor oil that maintains hydroxyl functionality in the chain and functions as a reactive plasticizer. XXX-1 is a plasticizer that is non-migratory and is non-extractable from the cured urethane system. DB® Oil This triol has three linear chain backbones of identical structure which are symmetrically arranged around the core of the molecule. Its' performance is characterized by a mid-range hardness and strength, good elongation and flexibility. Vertellus Products • Castor Oil and its Chemistry • Vertellus Home Page |
